Mario Lemieux takes a shot at the Montreal Canadiens

It seems like last night’s loss to the Habs was tough to swallow…

Pittsburgh Penguins’ great and owner Mario Lemieux did not mince his words as he watched last night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens. In a conversation with captain Sidney Crosby and Pierre Larouche, he took a shot at the Habs, who got away with a 4-1 win on Tuesday night.

“That’s the way they play: boring hockey,” Lemieux said during a pause, per Rob Rossi of The Athletic.
“They always have.”

Lemieux usually have nothing but kind words to say about his hometown’s team and their historic run as he was a kid watching them in Montreal. It was different last night.

However, boring hockey got the best of the Penguins. They clearly sucked the life out of the Penguins during the second and third period, after Pittsburgh had been on top through the first 20 minutes.

Defenseman Kris Letang, also from Montreal, appeared to agree with Lemieux when commenting the game in the dressing room.

“When you see the game going that way, you just need to simplify,” defenseman Kris Letang said of the second period against the Canadiens, who were +4 in shot attempts during their 3-0 scoring run.

“Maybe it’s going to be a boring game, but I think we have to stick with it. Maybe we tried to do a little too much and we got caught in some areas.”

Boring hockey works sometimes it seems…
