Retired veteran player Martin St. Louis is considering returning to the National Hockey after hanging up the skates back after the 2015-16 season.

The 44-year-old admitted on the air of Max and Bruno, a show hosted by former NHLers Max Talbot and Bruno Gervais, that he would be interested in becoming a head coach in the NHL. He revealed how he’s taken the past five years to spend more time with his children.

He believes he would like to spend another three years close to home and with his family before kicking off this next possible chapter in his life.

St. Louis has gained experience as a coach, playing an active role with his three boys. Back in January 2019, St-Louis was hired by the Blues Jackets as a consultant for special units. His stint in Columbus was not extend, however, as the team needed someone on the roster full time. But once against, St. Louis did not want to be away from his family, but explains that head coach John Tortorella understood his situation.

While a return to the NHL may not be in the cards in the coming months, we are excited that St. Louis is strongly considering it for the future.

The 2004 Stanley Cup champion retired after playing a total of 1134 games in the NHL, in which he collected 391 goals and 1033 points. He was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.

We'd love to see him back behind a bench!
