In case you missed it this past weekend, New York Islanders star Mathew Barzal absolutely TORE UP the NHL All-Star Skills Competition, taking home fastest skater honors. Barzal juuuuuust edged out superstar Connor McDavid with a lap time of 13.175 seconds.

Check it out, but don’t blink or you might miss it:

Incredible. Just an absolute lightning bolt out there. Crazy.

Actually… here’s the crazy thing… despite taking home the title as the fastest skater in the NHL, Barzal maintains that he has a New York Islanders teammate who’s even faster.

Check it out:

Nick Leddy?! A blueliner taking home fastest skater honors! I love it!

Honestly though, Leddy might best Barzal in a straight line race, but there’s no one else in the NHL who can take turns like Barzal. His edge work is the best in the world and he has an incredible ability to actually gain speed on turns. It’s remarkable.
