The trade market for the two-time Stanley Cup champion is heating up!

According to a second hand report from TSN hockey insider Frank Seravalli, the Pittsburgh Penguins have received plenty of interest regarding goaltender Matt Murray on the trade market.

In fact, Seravalli reports that at least six teams have shown interest in Murray and that the Penguins have at least one standing offer on the table.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, naturally, have attracted most of the rumour headlines when it comes to Murray, but pay close attention to the Buffalo Sabres. Sabres insider Chris DeDominicis reports that talks between the Penguins and Sabres have picked up and that Jared McCann has been part of the talks, as well.

Interesting. It would certainly seem to make sense, at least on the surface. New Sabres GM Kevyn Adams will likely be looking to make a splash this offseason, but does he really need a goalie? I suppose it all depends on the cost to acquire and the cost of Murray's next contract, but Linus Ullmark looks to be a legitimate NHL starting goaltender and prospect Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen looks to be the real deal.

Again, the Leafs will likely be in the rumours all offseason long mostly due to the relationship that Murray has with Leafs GM Kyle Dubas. The pair's friendship goes all the way back to their time with the OHL's Soo Greyhounds.

Both the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames make a whole lot of sense given that goaltending was the biggest fault for failure in the province of Alberta this season. The Oilers still have Mikko Koskinen under contract at $4.5 million for another two seasons, while the Flames have David Rittich for another season at just $2.75 million. The Flames certainly look like a team that's ready for some big changes, so don't be surprised if GM Brad Treliving pulls off a blockbuster move to get Murray between the pipes.

As for the Senators and Avalanche, they seem far fetched to be honest. The Sens are a bottom feeder and likely won't be looking to add salary anytime soon. The Avs already have an solid #1 goalie in Philipp Grubauer.

Thoughts?
