Matthews accomplishes extremely rare feat

Auston Matthews came out of the gate hot this season, much like he did last year in his debut NHL season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs visited the Winnipeg Jets in the teams' respective opening nights, with the visiting squad thumping the home team by a score of 7-2. Auston Matthews was responsible for 1 goal and 2 assists, good for 3 points on the night.

No one can forget last season, when the team opened their season against the Ottawa Senators - and Matthews put up an astonishing 4 goals in a losing effort. It was his first NHL game. Ever.

The Leafs' franchise center becomes only the fourth player in NHL history to put up 3 or more points in each of his first two career season openers.

The kid is poised to break many records.
