Some people say we should leave him alone, others want more details on what took place this summer in Scottsdale, Arizona, where Auston Matthews now faces a disorderly conduct charges.

The young player is charged with one count of disorderly conduct and disruptive behaviour or fighting in an incident that took place this summer. According to ABC 15 in Arizona, police say they investigated the incident that reportedly took place in May between Matthews and a female security officer at an apartment complex. According to that report, Matthews saw the guard sitting in a car and decided to jiggle the door handle. Matthews also dropped his pants and exposed his underwear to the guard, according to police. He might have also grabbed his butt once his pants were dropped…

We can understand how that poor women felt, surrounding by a gang of men with one attempting to get in her car and dropping his pants… No matter how famous he is!

Finally on Wednesday morning after the Maple Leafs’ practice ahead of tonight’s contest against the Montreal Canadiens, Matthews commented the charges with this short statement, per team insider Kristen Shilton of TSN

“I regret any of my actions that put a distraction on the team or distress on any individual. I take a lot of pride in preparing for the season and representing the Toronto Maple Leafs as best I can.”

He added that he cannot make any further comments at this time.

Many expected Matthews to become the next Leafs captain at the start of the season, however the incident is not making insiders wonder if the team will prefer to go with defenseman Morgen Rielly or veteran forward John Tavares.

We will have to wait and see…

However, teammate Rielly was quick to support Matthews and made it clear the young player takes the matter very seriously.

“It’s tough. He’s taking it very seriously. He knows these issues are serious. It’s not something we take lightly, and that’s how he’s approaching it. As teammates we’re going to support him.”
