The Toronto Maple Leafs are off to a hot start to the season, currently only a few points out of first place in the Atlantic division and in the entire NHL.

Howard Berger, a recent recipient of A LOT of flack from fans for a satire article stating that Auston Matthews would be traded, wrote a new, non-satirical, article today, explaining that the team's current success is not the result of "smoke and mirrors", rather, they are the real deal.

The "shock factor" of this article is that Nazem Kadri is the team's most valuable player, and not Matthews, as most would say in an instant.

With 22 points in 26 games, his point production is at a very high level, albeit not at Matthews' pace. Berger states three reasons that explain the Leafs' success this season, including Andersen's Vezina-worth month of November, effective line juggling and matchups, and - "the continued excellence of now–veteran center Nazem Kadri, among the most under–rated forwards in the entire league.

"Kadri, not Matthews, has been the Maple Leafs’ most valuable skater so far this season — putting up 22 points with his enviable mix of soft hands and rambunctiousness," Berger declares.

It seems pointless to debate who the team's best player is, but could you argue for Kadri being the team's most valuable player this season, as Berger does?
