Auston Matthews makes Leafs history again

It’s funny to think that a few weeks ago fans were complaining about Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews’ ongoing slump. Last night, Matthews scored twice as the Maple Leafs dominated early before having to hang on late in a 5-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. 

Matthews didn’t stop there: he made history. 

He became the second player in franchise history to score at least 20 goals in each of his first four NHL seasons, joining Dave Keon, who did it in six straight from 1960-61 to 1965-66.


“It’s pretty big honour just to be in the same breath as that guy,” said the 22-year-old player to TSN when learning about the record. 

Matthews dazzled with his second goal of the game as he fooled many Sabres players to get the puck past goalie Linus Ullmark.
