NHL superstars have mostly been quiet since the league elected to put the 2019-20 season on pause amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. However on Thursday, NHL superstar Connor McDavid took part in a conference call with other captains from the Pacific Division to discuss the league’s current situation.

McDavid revealed how he does not agree with Pittsburgh Penguins’ Sidney Crosby and Washington Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin to go straight to the postseason when play resumes.

He would prefer the regular season to resume after the pause and explained why with a funny reason.

“I don’t think we can just step into the playoffs, Game 1, Calgary-Edmonton and guys just run around killing each other,” he said.

McDavid appears to be siding with most of the general managers from the league. Darren Dreger explained on Insider Trading on TSN on Thursday night that general managers would prefer for the regular season to resume before starting the postseason.

“I can tell you that the National Hockey League is receiving proposals, literally on a daily basis, from NHL general managers and other club types around the National Hockey League. But, the general managers I’m talking to would support the idea of playing some form of a regular season before the playoffs. It doesn’t have to be the balance of an 82-game schedule. I mean, timing is going to dictate that. But even a two-game regular season or a five-game regular season before the playoffs, I think most GMs would support (that).”

On the call, Bo Horvat, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Mark Giordano all agreed with McDavid on how play should resume.

We will see what the league decides.
