Not sure what he was thinking there…

McDavid looked very weird at the Awards last night

The 2018-19 season was clearly one to forget for Connor McDavid.

That horrible season for the Edmonton Oilers and their captain ended with McDavid suffering a significant knee injury, and last night, he wasn’t rewarded for his efforts in trying to save the team at the NHL Awards.

McDavid finished third in Hart Memorial Trophy voting, behind the winner, Tampa Bay right wing Nikita Kucherov and Pittsburgh center Sidney Crosby. He finished second in the NHL with 116 points.

On top of that, the first time in three seasons McDavid has not won the Ted Lindsay award.

But fans will still remember him at the Awards last night but for one very weird reason. Despite making a whooping $12.5 million/year (and let’s not forget the endorsement deals), the Oilers captain was caught rocking a hockey lace as a belt.

We can’t say if he ended losing his belt prior to the ceremony or that was just a fashion statement, but let’s just say fans didn’t miss the opportunity to make fun of the star player.

Maybe that was a brilliant way to distract from potentially seeing that much talked about brace on his leg...
