Six goalies have played for the Philadelphia Flyers this season and there may very well soon be a seventh as the team has claimed netminder Mike McKenna off waivers on Friday. It may be a tough reality for the Flyers, who need to find solutions as the club falls way behind in the playoff race, however the reality is even harder on McKenna and his young family.

McKenna was waived by the Vancouver Canucks, who had acquired him from Ottawa via trade on Wednesday. The 35-year-old has an .897 save percentage in 10 NHL games this campaign and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at season’s end.

He is now headed to his third team in the past three days.

The veteran goalie posted on his Twitter account how grateful he is to be given another chance this season despite the wild week. He even made a joke on his equipment as he heads out to join his new teammates in Philadelphia.

"OK. I know this has been a wild week. And I'm going to look like a Munson for the foreseeable future with mismatched equipment. But remember, when you come to a fork in the road, take it."

However, McKenna's wife Rachel was quite honest on how hard it has been on the family with all the latest changes. While she explains how grateful she is to see her husband live his dream and play in the NHL, she shares heartbreaking details on what toll is has taken on the family, especially her two young children.

“Hi, everyone. I know I’ve done a fair amount of complaining lately, but I’m truly grateful for the career and opportunity Mike has had these 14 years. Any chance he has to be in the NHL is a special and amazing one and I’m fully aware of how incredible it all is.

That being said, I have a 2 year old who cries and occasionally thinks her daddy doesn’t love her anymore because he hasn’t lived with us in 2 months. She can’t understand how special what her dad does is. And her tears and heartbreak are devastating to witness.

I have a 5 year old whose dad is her hero and she misses him so much. She’s trying her best to be positive, but when he only has a couple of minutes to talk because it’s game day and it’s been weeks since she’s seen him, she can’t understand why he won’t talk to her longer.

I am doing everything in my power to keep my kids happy, engaged, and understanding of how much their dad loves them and how cool it is that he gets to play hockey for a “job” at all. But they’re little. They just want dad around to give them hugs, to see their school concerts…"

Here is the full breakdown on her message in her eight tweets from her personal account:
