McKenzie: No amnesty/compliance buyouts coming with new NHL CBA

NHL GMs are stuck with the lousy contracts they signed.

This just in courtesy of TSN hockey insider Bob McKenzie, no-penalty amnesty/compliance buyouts will NOT be part of the NHL and NHLPA’s new collective bargaining agreements.

Check it out:

Seeing all sorts of speculative chatter amongst fans discussing possibility of new CBA amnesty buyouts to help clubs manage flat cap. Amnesty buyouts are NOT part of agreement. They might make a GM’s life easier but wouldn’t help owners/players navigate their troubled economy.

It was widely speculated that no-penalty amnesty/compliance buyouts would be available for NHL general managers to use this upcoming offseason (whenever that is). McKenzie’s report puts this all in doubt now.

Suffice it to say, this could pose a problem for teams like the Chicago Blackhawks in the case of Brent Seabrook, Vancouver Canucks and Loui Eriksson, Calgary Flames and Milan Lucic, Detroit Red Wings and Justin Abdelkader. In particular this really hurts the Canucks and Flames as they are both competitive teams who are up against the salary cap and could desperately use the cap space that a amnesty buyout would provide.
