It has been a very busy day for general manager Kyle Dubas of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Not only have the Leafs been busy at the 2019 National Hockey League Entry Draft all day but the Maple Leafs general manager has also been conducting a ton of business unrelated to the draft as well.

We of course had the trade of Toronto Maple Leafs veteran forward Patrick Marleau earlier today. That trade cost the Leafs a pretty penny but the Maple Leafs were able to unload over $6 million off their cap in the process, a move that no doubt has facilitated the following news. According to a breaking report from TSN National Hockey League insider Bob McKenzie it now sounds like Dubas and the Maple Leafs have reached an agreement with two of their young players.

Although the deals have not yet been officially signed, and McKenzie has reported that they are not likely to be finalized until after Maple Leafs star forward Mitch Marner has been signed to his new contract, McKenzie is a terrific source and has even been able to provide some details regarding what the new contract for each player will look like. While this is not an official report, McKenzie's record is impeccable and you can take these numbers straight to the bank.

"When TOR eventually formalizes contract extensions for RFAs Kasperi Kapanen and Andreas Johnsson, I would expect Kapanen’s average annual value on a three-year deal to be $3.2M and Johnsson’s average annual value on a four-year deal to be $3.4M," wrote the insider.

Johnsson is a rare late round draft pick , selected in the 7th round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft (202nd overall)  that has made it big time in the NHL. He truly elevated his game in this most recent seaso nwith the Leafs recording 20 goals and 23 assists for a total of 43 points over 73 games played. Additionally he ended the season with a plus minus rating of +14, and established himself as an important piece of the Maple Leafs offense.

Kapanen, a former 1st round pick (22nd over all) of the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, has appeared in 133 games for the Maple Leafs thus far in his career. The young Finnish forward truly elevated his game in this most recent season however with Kapanen recording 20 goals and 24 assists for a total of 44 points over his 78 games played. All of those metrics were career highs and established Kapanen as an integral piece in the Maple Leafs offense.

It now sounds like it will be up to Mitch Marner as to when these deals are officially announced.
