Mike Green is having a great start this season for the Detroit Red Wings, as he registered eleven points (1G+10A) in his first nine games played. By doing so, he joined Niklas Lidstrom as the only other defenseman in Red Wings history to register ten or more assists in the first nine games of a season.

Lidstrom did it twice, in 1997-1998 and 2010-2011.

Green is currently tied for the NHL lead in points by defenseman this season, with St. Louis Blues Alex Pietrangelo (3G + 8A) and Philadelphia Flyers Shayne Gostisbehere (1G+10A).

Mike Green, 32, was drafted 29th overall by the Washington Capitals in 2004. Detroit signed him as a free agent in the summer of 2015. In 730 games played in the NHL, Green registered 442 points. He added 37 points in 76 playoff games.
