After just two games in an Edmonton Oilers sweater, defenceman Mike Green is going to spend significant time on the sidelines. The 34-year-old, who was acquired from the Detroit Red Wings at the trade deadline last Monday, is expected to be out three-to-four weeks with a sprained MCL.

Green was injured during the Oilers' loss to the Vegas Golden Knights Wednesday when he collided with one of the Knights' players in what appeared to be a knee-on-knee hit. Green immediately left the game and did not return. The team announced the MCL sprain today.

Despite dealing with various injuries all season long, Edmonton sits in third place in the Pacific Division. While they are tied with 2nd place Vancouver with 74 points, the Oilers have played one more game than the Canucks.

Green was acquired from Detroit in exchange for a conditional pick, as well as forward Kyle Brodziak. The conditional draft pick will either fall in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft or the third round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Green has three goals and eight assists in 50 combined games with Detroit and Edmonton this season.

On a better note for Edmonton, Kailer Yamamoto and Andreas Athanasiou were full participants in practice on Friday. Yamamoto has been listed as week-to-week with an ankle injury. Athanasiou, also acquired by Edmonton from Detroit at the deadline, was also injured in Wednesday's game against Vegas, but the injury isn't believed to be serious. He should be ready to get back in the lineup for the Oilers' next game.
