I have to admit this one comes as a pretty big disappointment.

According to a report from Pittsburgh Penguins insider Dave Molinari of DK Pittsburgh Sports, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has been officially ruled out of tonight's match up against the Arizona Coyotes. The news comes off the heels of a full participation in practice from Crosby on Saturday, one that had many believing that he could potentially make his return this evening to face the Coyotes. There were signs yesterday that Crosby was unlikely to play this evening, but nonetheless the chance to see him play against former teammate Phil Kessel and a pretty good Coyotes team likely would have been a lot of fun.

Crosby has of course been out for weeks now as a result of a sports hernia surgery that he underwent back in November. but in spite of the disappointing news from today it seems like he is very close to finally making his return. The Penguins have been doing really well without him but Crosby was tearing it up prior to going under the knife with 5 goals and 12 assists for 17 points in his 17 appearances during the 2019 - 2020 National Hockey League regular season.

There's no doubt about Molinari's report here either as the source for his information is none other than Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan. Sorry Penguins fans.
