It was a pretty toxic situation for former Minnesota Wild head coach Mike Yeo when he was fired by the team earlier this season. There were all kinds of nasty rumors abound involving the potential involvement of Adam Oates, but in the end it turned out to be the right decision for the Wild, and now it seems may also have been the best case scenario for Mike Yeo.

Yeo needed very little time to bounce back from what had to be a very difficult time for him, and was quickly named an assistant coach for Canada's inaugural team at the World Cup of Hockey, and now Yeo is being rumored as a candidate for two National Hockey League positions.

Late last night a rumor started floating around of a possible hire from the Canadiens. The rumor suggested that Marc Bergevin could look to hire Yeo as a potential assistant coach, and although it would be a curious move, it could give him a back up plan if the Habs were to implode under Michel Therrien once again next season.

With that said, TSN insider Darren Dreger appeared to squash that rumor when he stated this morning he doesn't believe Yeo would be looking to come back as an assistant in the NHL.

“Is he ready to jump back into the NHL as an assistant? My gut tells me 'no',” said Dreger as per Rick Moffet.

Dreger would go on to elaborate on that statement through his social media.

“I am certain he intends to wait and see what head coaching opportunities surface.

It took almost no time for at least one of those opportunities to surface, and shortly after the termination of head coach Dave Cameron today by the Ottawa Senators, some of the top insiders in the business believe Mike Yeo is one of the prime candidates for the job. Arguably the top Senators insider, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, revealed his belief that Yeo would be considered for the job.

“Former Wild coach Mike Yeo will come highly recommended by the people in Minnesota. My guess is he'll be a candidate.

This time Darren Dreger echoed those comments from Garrioch and added:

“42 years old with a ton of experience, including a Stanley Cup.

Despite being fired just weeks ago 2016 may be turning into a pretty good year for Mike Yeo.
