After a few fun and games during the warm up, the Blackhawks did not have a good time in their game against the Colorado Avalanche. The Blackhawks were crushed by the Avs by a score of 5-2. As if that wasn't enough, Chicago suffered another tough blow as a key player left the game halfway through the game.

Duncan Keith played his last shift 10 minutes into the second period when he appeared to have some discomfort on the back check as his leg kicks up while he is taking a stride. See for yourself:

It was soon thereafter confirmed that Duncan Keith would miss the remainder of the game with a groin injury. His removal from action may have been precautionary considering the blowout that the Hawks faced, but groin injuries have to be taken seriously,

Keith is a mainstay in Chicago's defense and has been for years. With only 1 goal and 5 assists through 24 games this season, the veteran is mainly relied upon to move the puck and shutdown the opposition's best players. His absence may be problematic for the Blackhawks who lack depth and have been shaky on defense as today's scoreline demonstrates.

Let's hope that Keith's injury isn't too serious and that he will be back in action soon.
