More reports that Corey Perry will sign in Canada

From the buy-out, bargin bin to hot commodity on the free agent market. How much is Perry worth?

Earlier this month a second hand report via TSN hockey insider Frank Seravalli seemed to indicate that free agent forward Corey Perry could be lured North of the border to continue his NHL career. Seravalli reported that the Ottawa Senators have engaged in discussions with Perry and, even more importantly, Perry has shown interest in the Senators.

Now, Matthew DeFranks of the Dallas Morning News is echoing Seravalli's report and believes that the 35 year old Perry may even take a pay cut on the $1.5 million salary and $1.75 million in bonuses that the Dallas Stars paid him last season. DeFranks reports that the Stars are likely ready to move on from Perry as they'd like to inject some youth into their lineup. Look for Jason Robertson, Ty Delandrea or Nick Caamano to take over Perry's role for the Stars next season.

Perry, of course, had a bit of a career resurgence with the Stars this past season after being bought out of his contract by the Anaheim Ducks last offseason. Perry put up five goals and 21 points in 57 games with the Stars last season. He also put up five goals and nine points in 27 post-season games during the Stars run to the Stanley Cup Final. Incredibly though, the Stars have let him walk away as a free agent and there doesn't appear to be much in the way of negotiations between the two sides.

The Sens, despite being one of the worst teams in the NHL last season, have made some significant changes this offseason and adding Perry to the mix may tie things together. After all, who better to help shepherd along a young pest like Brady Tkachuk than Perry himself? Add in the additions of Evgeny Dadonov, goaltender Matt Murray and 3rd overall pick Tim Stuetzle and the Senators have made some very strong moves this offseason. Does Perry push them over the edge and turn them into a contender? No, of course not. But he'd certainly help and he'd give the Sens some interesting options for their top six forward group. I mean... don't you think the Sens could use a guy like this in their lineup?
