Over the past few years, many people called the NHL All Star as a "soft" competition without any real meaning at the end. In an attempt to produce a more valuable show for the fans, the NHL introduced the 3-on-3 challenge last year in Nashville which was a foot forward in the right direction.

This year, players can expect a more intense challenge than ever. "You can look really foolish if you don't give it a hundred percent out there," said Doughty, a member of the Pacific Division team. "You can't hide on the ice at 3-on-3, so you're going to have to be giving it the whole time and that causes us to play hard and put on a good show for the fans and the NHL."

Bruce Boudreau is also ready to any type of call to win the game. "I'm going to look to call an illegal stick," Boudreau said. "If it comes down to crunch time I'm going to be measuring sticks."

This is not without remembering Jacques Demers' call during the playoff in 93' where he called an illegal stick to soon after win the Stanley Cup.
