The waves of emotion that wash over hockey fans during the Stanley Cup Playoffs are intense and fickle, and summed up beautifully in this young Oilers fan:

 Full Version here.

Five-year-old Liam Hirsch of Vegreville, Alberta took it all in at Game 6 in Edmonton. The 7-1 throttling of the Anahiem Ducks was everything the home crowd was looking for after a heartbreaking, and record setting, breakdown that allowed to Ducks to tie the game in the last minutes of the third period and eventually take the win in the second overtime.

What did little Liam have to cry about at the end of the game then? His Connor McDavid teddy bear fell into a puddle of beer on the ground…

We were joking that he wanted eight goals and that’s why he was crying,” Liam’s mother Jamie said.

Liam was just trying to get on the Jumbotron,” she explained. “That was his goal – to have the guys there show him – which he never made it onto the Jumbotron. But little did we know, he was becoming famous”.

I look in my purse and look at my phone and I have 30 text messages from friends and family letting us know that he was on TV. And we had videos and pictures and it went all over Facebook and Twitter,” Jamie said.

I’ve got calls from my sister who lives in Texas and she saw it. And friends of hers in Hong Kong saw it – and we just didn’t expect this.”

The same could be said about the Oilers run through the Playoffs so far. Heading back to Anaheim for Game 7, the Oilers could punch their ticket to the conference finals on Wednesday, May 4th.
