MUST SEE: Bettman gets the worse welcome as he is presented into Hall of Fame class!

The NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is one of the Hall of Fame’s more controversial selections, but the man who is still in office after 25 years received his ring to the Hall Friday afternoon.

Bettman is one of the rare members of the Hall of Fame to get booed when he returns to centre stage for events such as the Stanley Cup final, NHL drafts and award shows.

And it wasn’t different when he stepped on the ice of the ScotiaBank Arena on Friday, when the class of 2018 was announced prior to the New Jersey Devils and Maple Leafs game in Toronto.

As his name was announced by the announcer, Bettman was booed by the local crowd. However, the NHL commissioner found it funny, as he always does, smiling and then stretching his ear out to the crowd, letting them know he is used to it and can clearly hear them.

“They knew I was there,” joked Bettman of being used to such crowd receptions. “Our fans are passionate and that’s great. (Booing) means they care, it means they’re focused on the game, it means they know what’s going on and you couldn’t ask for anything more.

“If you’ve followed the last few Cup presentations and the last few drafts, I’ve even been known to egg it on. And it’s fine, all part of the routine.”

You can see here below how loud the crowd was on Friday, despite the amazing feast of Bettman making it in the HHOF.

The 2018 Hockey Hall of Fame induction is Monday. This class includes NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, and Willie O’Ree, the first black player in the NHL, in the Builders category as well as former players Martin Brodeur, Martin St. Louis, Alexander Yakushev and Jayna Hefford.
