Washington Capitals rookie Nathan Walker has perhaps the most interesting path to the NHL of perhaps anyone in the league. Born in Cardiff, Wales, Walker moved to Sydney, Australia at a young age and fell in love with hockey there. As he aged and his skills developed, Walker left home for the Czech Republic to give himself a shot at one day playing in the NHL. Last night, in his first NHL game, his dreams finally came true.

Walker scored in his NHL debut, becoming not only the first Australian to play an NHL game, but also the first to score a goal.

Check it out:

While Devante Smith-Pelley took the shot, it ricocheted off of Walker giving him credit on the goal. But, that’s not the end of the story for Walker on the evening. Following the game and a big win for the Caps, Walker received a phone call from Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

And if that wasn’t good enough, check out his Mother’s reaction to the goal announcement. It’s priceless.

Good on you, Nathan!
