Fans and hockey analysts have been particularly brutal in their assessment of the Vancouver Canucks lately. You’d be hard pressed to find many people in the hockey world who think the team has a chance of qualifying for the playoffs in 2017-18, but CBC’s Don Cherry, the legendary broadcaster and host of Coach’s Corner, likes what he sees.

Cherry was on Sportsnet 650 Vancouver this morning where he shared his opinion on the current state of the Canucks. Firstly, he doesn’t think things are as bad as others are making them out to be:

Grapes is also a big fan of newly hired head coach Travis Green saying, “He’s a great coach and the reason I keep my eye on him is when he was playing here in Toronto, I said that he would make a good coach in the National Hockey League. Now they gotta give him time. He got a three-year contract, and I love what he said when he (was hired), he said the team’s gotta get younger, he didn’t put down Willie (Desjardins).”

But, in true Don Cherry fashion, he had some critical words for the team, as well and he saved them for the team’s two biggest stars: Henrik and Daniel Sedin. “I don’t know what he’s going to do but he’s gotta straighten those guys out, they can’t be minus-25 and scoring 15 goals,” he said. “I think he’ll handle them right; play them on the power play, don’t play them when the faceoff’s in your end, he’ll come up with something.”

What do you think? Is Cherry out to lunch? Or, do you agree with his assessment?
