It’s always a feisty affair whenever the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers face off in the province of Alberta. While last night’s season opening tilt between the two Western Conference powerhouses featured plenty of highlights moments courtesy of Oilers forward Connor McDavid and Flames goaltender Mike Smith, it was the enforcers who managed to bring the crowd to their feet early on.

Recently signed Flames forward Tanner Glass and Oilers pugilist Zack Kassian dropped the mitts in the first period, spilling blood and officially signalling the start of the 2017-18 Battle of Alberta.

A short, but spirited affair. We’ll have to give the edge to Glass and the Flames, considering that Kassian comes up looking like he’s wearing war paint after this scrap.

Hopefully, this is just the first of many great games between these two young and exciting squads this season.
