Must See: KHL goalie lets in absolute stinker

The final of the Sochi Hockey Open took place today and it’s clear some players are still in preseason form.

With SKA St. Petersburg leading the Russia national team 3-1, defenseman Maxim Chudinov launched a shot from behind his blueline towards the SKA net. The seemingly harmless wrist shot fooled goalkeeper Mikko Koskinen, bouncing into the net and bringing Russia within one.

While mistakes happen, this one couldn’t have come at a worse time, as it gave Russia momentum entering the third period. The national team was able to score again and eventually defeat SKA St. Petersburg 4-3 to win the 2017 Sochi Hockey Open.

Koskinen was a 2009 draft pick of the New York Islanders, but only ever appeared in four games with the NHL team. This play certainly won’t increase his chances of one day returning to the NHL.
