Must See: Leafs’ Matthews rips Sens after 6-3 loss
Keystone Press

Toronto Maple Leafs superstar sophomore Auston Matthews had another strong showing against the Ottawa Senators last night in the battle of Ontario, but despite his best efforts the Leafs fell 6-3 to the Sens. Matthews brought the crowd to their feet with another highlight reel goal, but the stifling defensive play of the Senators and some timely goals from Mark Stone and Derick Brassard was enough to lift the Sens past the Leafs.

Still… Matthews couldn’t help himself from taking a shot against his provincial rivals immediately following the game.

Wow. That’s a bold statement from the youngster. There are two ways you can look at it, though. One: Matthews is a sore loser. Two: Matthews is simply stating the system that makes the Sens so successful. To call out a team for playing the trap isn’t necessarily a criticism, it’s just matter of fact.

The Sens, like any NHL team, employ the trap at certain points of the game and are perhaps the most successful team to do so.  What do you think? Is Matthews creating bulletin board material with his comments?
