The cancer diagnosis for NBC broadcaster Eddie Olcyk rocked the hockey world just before the start of the 2017-18 season. In early August, the beloved color-commentator announced that he had colon cancer and would have to undergone a surgical procedure to remove a cancerous tumor. The surgery was a success, but Olcyk still have a long road in front of him with regards to recovery and then cancer treatment.

On tonight’s NBC coverage between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Chicago Blackhawks from United Center in Chicago, Olycyk made his first television appearance since his diagnosis. As you might expect, the gritty 16 year NHL veteran put up a strong frame on television, before stuttering on his words and breaking down in an embrace with longtime broadcasting partner Pat Foley. It was a moment of pure emotion and it was magical.

Check it out:

How great is that? If that’s not enough, check out the reaction Eddie O got from the Blackhawks faithful when he was displayed on the arena’s big screen:

Magic. All the best, Eddie. Get well soon, we can’t wait to watch hockey with you again.
