Must See: Sedin twins have a message for Vancouver
Keystone Press

Henrik and Daniel Sedin have been mainstays of the Vancouver Canucks for nearly two decades. Since first arriving in Vancouver in the fall of 2000, the duo has gone on to score a combined 607 goals and 2,007 points in 2,473 regular season games for the Canucks. The Swedish twins are one and two in nearly every Canucks all-time record including most points, goals, assists and games played. They’ve eclipsed franchise heroes like Trevor Linden, Pavel Bure and Markus Naslund in terms of fan appreciation and will likely go down in history as the greatest players in team history.

But, with the Canucks in the midst of a rebuild and with their current contracts expiring at the end of the season, the Sedin twins have heard all the speculation and trade buzz surrounding themselves lately. Thankfully, they’re having none of it. In this morning’s article for The Players’ Tribune, both Henrik and Daniel express their love for the city of Vancouver and for the franchise that drafted them 2nd and 3rd overall in 1999.

If we’re going to win a Cup, we only want it to be with Vancouver – that will never change. And if the moment has come and passed already, then so be it. This is my home. This is our home. This is our family’s home. Vancouver has given us so much and we’ve tried to give everything we have in return. So we will do our best to teach this new generation of young guys.

Translation: “We’re not going anywhere”. The twins plan on playing out the final year of their deal and will make a decision on their NHL future, Canucks or bust, in the following offseason. Their focus is on helping the team’s young players get to the next step and hopefully sneak into a playoff position for another Stanley Cup run before time runs out on their careers.

Smart career move? Probably not. Fan approved? Absolutely.
