Two time Stanley Cup champion Phil Kessel opened up about his battle with cancer on social media, Monday. The 30-year-old American explained how he found out about his cancer when he was only 19. He was just drafted fifth overall by the Boston Bruins in 2006 when he discovered a bump on one of his testicle.

As soon as he found out, he went to see his doctor, and he underwent surgery. He only missed 11 games during his rookie season, and he won the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for perseverance. Most importantly, he was cancer-free.

In the video he posted on social media, Kessel explained why the fact that he went to see his doctor quickly changed everything.

So far, Phil Kessel played 838 games in the NHL with the Boston Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Pittsburgh Penguins, and he registered 653 points. He won back to back Stanley Cups with the Penguins over the last two seasons.
