It all the same for Nail Yakupov. You found out earlier today that the former 1st overall NHL draft pick was traded - yet again - in the KHL and now more information has leaked on his path to well… complete hockey bust.

The former Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues forward now joins his 4th KHL team in just the past six months. Since May, Yakupov has been a member of Avangard,Khabarovsk,Vityaz and SKA St. Petersburg.

And this comes with a significant salary decrease, which was quickly pointed out by many fans and pundits on social media. According to Russian media, Yakupov’s salary in Avangard is around $320 000 USD, while he was earning $900 000 USD in Amur.

That’s not to mention that he used to make way more in the NHL and could have gone to ink a crazy contract with a team if he had turn out to meet everyone’s expected before he was picked first overall back in 2012.

The 27-year-old has put up just one goal in 15 games with Khabarovsk this season.

We are hoping that he will be better under Bob Hartley who might be able to get him back on track.

Maybe Yakupov will be motivated by the fact that he might want to cash in more money in the coming years.

Money rules the world after all...
