Very curious stuff from NBC Sports.

There is a very curious situation going on and it involves one of NBC Sports' reporters.

As everyone in the hockey world is likely aware of at this time today marks the final day in negotiations between the Toronto Maple Leafs and restricted free agent forward William Nylander, at least as far as the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season is concerned. Nylander will either have to sign a new deal by the deadline today, either with the Maple Leafs or perhaps with a rival organization should he be traded by the Leafs, or he will be forced to sit out the entire season without a contract.

As a result of this current situation everyone is expecting a major announcement, one way or another, before the end of the day and it seemed initially like we had that announcement primed and ready to go very early on. NBC Sports' Kathryn Tappen reported this morning that she was "hearing news" that William Nylander and the Toronto Maple Leafs had agreed on a new deal today and that she was merely awaiting confirmation to make it official. Now given that NBC is an official broadcast partner of the NHL it would not be a surprise to see one of their reporters breaking such a story and Tappen has a reputation as a solid reporter, but she may have jumped the gun here.

Tappen would quickly delete her report just barely over a minute after initially publishing it, although the reason for the speedy removal is currently unclear and she has thus far refused to address the many questions that have been directed at her regarding it. It's possible that Tappen may have some inside info, due to her connections at NBC and the networks connections to the league, that she is not allowed to disclose publicly at this time or it may simply be a matter of an overzealous reporter making a mistake.

That being said it once something has been published on the internet it's very difficult to get rid of it entirely and Tappen's report has now been widely shared on social media, likely to her dismay. What do you make of this?
