With the regular season behind us already, a lot of teams decided to purge their coaching staff to start anew. The L.A. Kings did just that by firing long time coach Darryl Sutter and speculation went wild about who might replace him.

Rumors went one way and the other but the real nominee was revealed today.

Stevens is a former NHL and AHL player who played mainly on the East Coast. However, he's better known for his coaching career. Before being the associate coach in Los Angeles, Stevens was head coach for the Flyers during half of the last decade. More importantly, he won the Calder Cup as the head coach of the Philadelphia Phantoms and was part of the Stanley Cup conquest of 2011-2012 in Los Angeles.

It was expected to see Stevens being nominated, as he was the protege of Sutter for so long. Hopefully, he will have the driving force necessary to turn the team around and make the Kings as competitive as they used to be.
