New role expected of young player this season

Ryan Spooner is expected to start the season with a new role in the organization. With his lack of size and toughness, the Boston Bruins are expecting him to take on the role of a third-line, two-way center.

“Because if he can do it, and he’s more than capable of doing it, then that’s growth in his game and he recognizes it, and hopefully he does,” Sweeney said.

After the fitness camp yesterday, Spooner was asked about his new role, and said that “it’s definitely a challenge for me and I’m excited for it for sure.”

Spooner explained that he’s aware of his newfound expectations from the team, and that his role can be given to others, namely David Backes, should he not deliver.
