The New York Islanders have been trying to find a true number one goaltender for a while. So it comes as a surprise that they are shopping the goalie who had seemed to be what they had been looking for.

Yes, Jaroslav Halak has had a very up and down stint with the Islanders. The main issue, which always seems to be the same with Islander goalies is injuries. Halak has missed quite a bit of time dealing with injuries and might be a reason as to why Isles GM Garth Snow is shopping him.

Halak was fantastic at the World Cup of Hockey and most definitely raised his value. There are many teams who have lost their number one goalies due to injuries and Halak could be a great replacement. That is if he stays healthy. When he is healthy and on top of his game, he can be one of the best in the league. We all remember him carrying the Montreal Canadiens to an Eastern Conference final in which if it wasn't for Halak standing on his head game in and game out, the Habs would have most likely been bounced in the first round by the Capitals. Just ask Alex Ovechkin what he thought of that series. He is probably still having nightmares.

Halak has one more year left after this season in his contract and at a 4.5M cap hit, if he could return to form and stay healthy, he could be a very interesting acquisition. There are quite a few other options out there so it will be interesting to see what Snow will be looking for in return.
