There was almost no doubt that this hit would lead to some form of suspension, it was a textbook example of the kind of hit the National Hockey League is trying to remove from the game.

The NHL's Department of Player safety has announced that they will be suspending St. Louis Blues forward Ryan Reaves for the next 3 games as a result of the hit he delivered to San Jose Shark defenseman Matt Tennyson who was knocked out cold on the play.

As they have done several times in the past, Player Safety once again put the onus for the hit on the hitter and not the man being hit, although they did go a step further in this case and stated that Tennyson was never eligible for a hit from Reaves.
