NHL awards Chicago another major NHL event.

The National Hockey League made a major announcement on Thursday, and once again the city of Chicago, and the fans in that area, will be the benefactors.

This time it will be the 2017 NHL Entry Draft that will be held in Chicago, the news broke this morning following reports from Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times and ESPN's Pierre Lebrun.

Gary Bettman, Rahm Emanuel and Hawks president John McDonough and owner Rocky Wirtz will announce this afternoon that the 2017 draft will be held in Chicago, a source said, confirming a report by ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun. The draft, held in late June following the season, has rotated around the league since the 1980s. This year’s version will be in Buffalo. Chicago has never hosted.

It should come as no surprise, after all Chicago has been the model franchise over the last several years, and they represent the pinnacle of success in modern hockey, not to mention they are a team based in the United States, something the National Hockey League is always trying to push.
