Don’t look now… but there’s NHL hockey on tap tomorrow!

Eastern Conference teams have arrived in Toronto’s bubble, while Western Conference teams have arrived in Edmonton’s bubble and exhibition play is scheduled to take place tomorrow! NHL hockey is back! That’s fantastic news!

Even better news though, the NHL has confirmed zero new cases of COVID-19 in the past week. Meaning that all 24 teams who have entered the bubble are fully healthy and are not at risk of spreading the virus within the bubble.

Check it out:

The NHL concluded Phase 3 (formal training camp) of its Return to Play on Saturday with no positive test results for COVID-19 among the 4,256 tests administered to more than 800 Players during the period for July 18 - 25. During the two-week period of Phase 3 there were a total of two positive tests (both occurred during the period from July 13-17) among the 6,874 total tests. All 24 teams entered the secure zone in Edmonton and Toronto yesterday for the beginning of Phase 4 and each of the 52 members of the 24 teams (Players and Club staff) will be tested on a daily basis. The NHL will continue to provide regular updates on the number of tests administered to Players and the results of those tests. The League will not be providing information on the identity of the Players of Clubs.

This is obviously fantastic news and you have to imagine that Gary Bettman and all of the executives at NHL head office are very, VERY pleased with this news. Doubly so when you consider the difficulties that the NBA has experienced and well... the MLB is an unmitigated disaster really. In case you missed it, literally more than a dozen players from the Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies have tested positive for COVID-19 after the MLB elected to go with a "non-bubble" format to resume their season. The NHL hasn't had any new cases in over a week now and with the players entering quarantine in the Toronto/Edmonton bubble, it looks like the league is on the right track.
