NHL expert reveals how much money Nylander is losing each day!

The stalemate is getting expensive...

The 2018-19 season kicks off tonight as the Toronto Maple Leafs face the Montreal Canadiens in their first game of the campaign. It is also the first game without the services of one of their star players as Toronto will be without William Nylander for the foreseeable future due to ongoing contract issues.

Nylander has not taking part in the Leafs' training camp and will be missing out some action in the NHL before an agreement is made, and, as NHL senior writer for TSN Frank Seravalli revealed, he is missing out on so much more... Seravalli reported earlier on Wednesday that Nylander will be missing out on some hefty cash for each day he remains without a contract. Seravalli is reporting that Nylander is losing out on anywhere from $20,000 to $45,000 for every passing day Nylander has not signed.

It remains to be seen when Nylander will sign, but if he continues to hold out on a contract, he’ll be losing quite a bit of money in the process. The Leafs attempted to sign Nylander all summer, however, it seems like both parties are holding out their bottom lines and no one is flinching... yet. There is also an important detail to point out isthat the loss of money is not for games played, it is for days in the season.

Nylander could indeed lose a lot of money over the course of the season.

Last season in 82 games played with Toronto, Nylander recorded 20 goals and 41 assists for 61 points. Maybe people expected the Leafs to miss the star forward, however, their projected lineup for tonight's opener against the Canadiens looks pretty good. This morning, TSN's Mark Masters tweeted out the Maple Leafs’ lines at their first-morning skate of the regular season and there seems to be no void, despite the absence of Nylander.

Nylander might be rethinking his holding out on contract negotiations and might accept a bridge deal in the end, especially now that we know how much this is costing him - per day! The Leafs are looking to get a cap-controlled number that helps them fit all of Nylander, Mitch Marner, and Auston Matthews under the ceiling for the coming seasons...

For Nylander, he might be seeking big money, but it looks like he will have to lose a bit first.
