There are some intriguing names on the waiver wire this afternoon.

Antti Niemi was signed to a one-year/$700,000 contract over the summer in Pittsburgh to backup Matt Murray following the departure of Marc-Andre Fleury in the expansion draft.

The former Stanley Cup winner struggled last season in Dallas, and hoped to revitalize his career in Pittsburgh.

Well, that didn't quite happen. He's 0-3-0 in 3 starts, with an abysmal (and skewed) 7.49 goals against average and 0.797 save percentage.

Teams in need of goalies due to injury may be calling - the Boston Bruins are without Tuukka RaskRoberto Luongo is on injured reserve for the Florida Panthers, the Vegas Golden Knights are without both Marc-Andre Fleury and Malcolm Subban, and the New Jersey Devils are dealing with an injury to Cory Schneider

Eric Fehr started the season in Toronto competing for the 4th line center role with fellow veteran Dominic Moore and rookie Miro Aaltonen. The latter player was eventually sent to the AHL. Moore appears to have won the position - making Fehr expendable.

He was an important member of the Pittsburgh Penguins' Stanley Cup win in 2016 - and was subsequently traded to the Leafs at the trade deadline last season.

Jordan Schroeder, a former first round pick, has been placed on waivers following a conditioning stint in the AHL.

Finally, Colin McDonald, drafted 51st overall in 2003, has been in and out of the NHL throughout his career. He's played three games for the Philadelphia Flyers and has 1 goal.
