It appears that one team with a glaring offensive need may get exactly what the doctor ordered this summer.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, an anonymous NHL general manager has an idea where Boston Bruins' forward Loui Eriksson might be headed, should he become an unrestricted free agent by July 1.

Friedman reports that "word out of the combine" is that Eriksson would be open to signing with the Vancouver Canucks, who are in desperate need of goal scorers. The Canucks finished with the second-fewest goals per game in the league, posting a paltry mark of 2.27 — their lowest goals per game pace in franchise history. Generating offense at all seemed to be an issue for the Canucks, as they also finished third-last in shots per game (28.2) and fifth-last in total shot attempts (3268). Vancouver’s top offensive options remain the Sedin twins — now 35 years old — who led the club in scoring this season once again (Daniel finished first with 61 points while Henrik posted 55 points in eight fewer games). Past these two franchise leaders, the Canucks had only Jannik Hansen as a viable option, as the 29-year-old posted a career-best 22 goals in 67 contests.

The 30-year old Eriksson is coming off of a solid 30-goal season for Boston, with five other campaigns of 20 or more goals under his belt.

Chances are that this will be Eriksson's final big money contract and he will likely go to the team willing to pay him the most. The club has $9.5 million in projected cap space, per CapFriendly.com, with the majority of their roster already locked up, and some clear potential to make more space available if need be.

One thing's for sure, the Bruins would hate to see their top-scorer from last season sign with a rival club.
