If there has been one National Hockey League general manager who has been the most busy since the regular season came to an end, it may very well be former NHL player Ron Francis, current general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Francis not only made a big trade for Chicago Blackhawks backup goaltender Scott Darling, a big gamble that paid off in a big way on Friday when the Hurricanes, and more specifically Ron Francis, also signed Darling to a new contract.

Despite already having made two big moves, it sounds like there is more on the horizon for Francis, and two very solid sources are now backing up that claim. First Luke DeCock of the News & Observer is reporting that Francis has been laying the groundwork for a huge offseason this year, and has been doing so for the past three years.

Add to that the fact that TSN insider Pierre LeBrun has echoed the thoughts from DeCock and we have a recipe for what may be a very exciting offseason, especially if you are a fan of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Neither man has hinted at what kind of moves we can expect, but the Hurricanes have a number of draft picks and prospects in their system that they can use to get much better very quickly.
