NHL GM says he wants an 8-year contract for his young star!

It's rare that you hear a National Hockey League general manager comment on ongoing negotiations, but that's exactly what Buffalo Sabres GM Jason Botterill has done.

Speaking with sports anchor Dan Fetes of WROC, Botterill was asked specifically about his ongoing negations with young Sabres star forward Jack Eichel, and Botterill did not shy away from the question, instead making it clear that he was looking for a max deal.

"At the end of the day we wanna get Jack signed up for max amount & term possible, he has the same belief," said Botterill.

Despite suffering a serious injury last season Eichel was able to put up some very impressive numbers. recording 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 total points over the course of just 61 games.

There were rumors earlier this month that Eichel's camp was seeking some very serious money, $10 million per season in fact, and that news had raised some concerns about negotiations between the Sabres and Eichel.

However based on these comments from Botterill it now seems clear that the Sabres are determined to get this deal done. You can watch the relevant segment from the interview below.
