The Ottawa Senators are looking to deal and they aren't playing their cards close to the chest.

According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, Sens' GM Pierre Dorion is more than happy with the the deal his team made on Monday. Dorion made a splash by by acquiring winger Alex Burrows from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Swedish forward prospect Jonathan Dahlen. The team went even further, as Burrows is expected to sign a two-year extension worth $2.5 million per-season Tuesday.

Dorion couldn't say enough about his team's first move before the March. 1 NHL Trade Deadline.

“We’re elated,” Dorion said Monday night. “The best sign for me is when I have five key veterans in our locker-room come up and I think one wanted to hug me and the other (one) shook my hand and thought this was a great move for our organization.

“I think we’ve become a tougher team to play against (already), and with the acquisition of Alex Burrows we’ve become an even tougher team to play against. We all know how games are at this time of the year and, hopefully, when our team gets in the playoffs, how they’re grinding, difficult games.

“Getting someone of Alex’s character is something we couldn’t turn (away from). Our players have done exactly what we’ve asked of them. They’ve played hard, they’ve played a system and we just felt it was time to add another piece. In Alex Burrows, we’re ecstatic to have that piece.”

Despite his elation at acquiring a player of Burrows' grit and playoff experience, he also made it clear that the team is far from finished wheeling and dealing before Wednesday.

“I’m always open for business,” Dorion said. “That win in Florida and New Jersey told me a lot about our team. … If we have to add another piece or two, we’ll look at it. We felt this was something we needed to get done.”

One young forward's name that has been the subject of trade rumors is Curtis Lazar, and Dorion has been given permission to make a deal in order to help get the team to the playoffs.

Armed with owner Eugene Melnyk’'s blessing to add a player, Dorion is looing into Dallas' forwards Patrick Sharp and Jiri Hudler along with Detroit’s' Thomas Vanek, the Jets' Drew Stafford along with Devils' forward P.A. Parenteau.

The club only has four picks in this June’s draft and do not want to give up top prospects Thomas Chabot and Colin White. However, they might be willing to part with Lazar and/or Cody Ceci.

The team has also elected to sit Lazar for precautionary reasons, making him a prime option to be moved in the next couple of days.

There is no doubt the Sens' aren't finished trying to enforce their lineup for a deep playoff run,
