NHL has reached out to the Penguins and engaged in “preliminary talks” to acquire Marc-Andre-Fleury.

At least one National Hockey League team has reached out to the Pittsburgh Penguins about acquiring veteran goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.

ESPN hockey insider Pierre LeBrun was a guest on TSN 1050 radio in Toronto on Wednesday afternoon when he was asked if the Dallas Stars could stay the course with their current goaltending situation. LeBrun not only made it clear that they could not but revealed Dallas may have already started to search for an answer.

“I’m told that there at least been a very preliminary discussion between Pittsburgh and Dallas regarding Marc-Andre Fleury," said Lebrun.

While he was clear to state that there was nothing imminent on this front it's an indication that with his team 7 points out of a playoff spot, and with only 3 weeks left before the National Hockey League's trade deadline, general manager Jim Nill is feeling the pressure.

Both Kari Lehtonen and Antti Niemi have demonstrated that they cannot be relied upon as number one goaltenders at this stage of their careers, and one has to wonder if Nill will make this move before the deadline in order to try and save his season.

Earlier today we covered rumors that suggest the Stars could move one of their big names out before the trade deadline if they remain out of playoff contention. You can read about that here.
