NHL head coach snaps, insults reporter, after being asked about his job security.

A National Hockey League head coach is feeling tremendous pressure right now and it seems like the weight of that pressure on his shoulders may finally be causing him to crack a little.

On Friday night the Anaheim Ducks faced off against the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Ducks were in desperate need of a win coming off 9 consecutive losses prior to that match up. Thankfully the Ducks came out looking red hot in the first period and opened up what initially appeared to be a commanding 3 - 0 lead after 20 minutes of action, however it would not be long after the Ducks would revert back to their losing ways. In spite of the massive early lead the Ducks would go on to be outscored by a margin of 7 - 1 in the game's final two periods of play leading to an unbelievable collapse for the 10th straight loss of the season, a franchise record for the Ducks.

As you would expect of any team coming off 10 straight losses there were plenty of questions for the Ducks after the game and many of them focused in on the leadership of head coach Randy Caryle. Carlyle, a veteran of the National Hockey League and a head coach for many many years, has been under pressure before but there was definitely something different about his mood after this particularly ugly loss. There have of course been rumors about Carlyle's job security in Anaheim for several days now but last night marked the first time that a credible journalist put the question of his potential firing directly to him.

According to multiple reports Carlyle "snapped" after he was asked about his potential firing, seemingly feeling that the question was not appropriate. Although I have not been able to confirm who asked the question it appears that it was veteran Ducks insider Eric Stephens of The Athletic, not at all a reporter known for being particularly disrespectful. In spite of that however Caryle reportedly told Stephens that he was asking a "dumb question" and even went one step further by flat out insulting the reporter. This wasn't some world shattering type of insult, he merely referred to Stephens as a "jerk" but it is not a good look for an NHL head coach who's job is on the line either way. Carlyle would then walk away from the press conference all together.

After 10 straight losses you have to wonder how much time Carlyle has left before the hot seat eventually leaves him burned.
