NHL Insider: Bruins At Center of Rumors
Keystone Press

After covering the World Junior Championship for the better part of the past month, TSN Insider Bob McKenzie had some catching up to do regarding all things National Hockey League related.

In looking at the Boston Bruins' situation, McKenzie shared his thoughts on coaching and trade rumors.

Head Coach Claude Julien

When asked if Julien's job will "ever be safe," McKenzie alluded to the fact that the Original Six organization's goal is not so much to bring in a fresh face as the Bruins brass is recognizant of the fine job Julien has done behind the bench:

"I think so," the Insider told Montreal's TSN690 this morning

Moreover, the objective for the Bruins is to bolster their blue line, even if they're in the middle of negotiations with the free-falling Colorado Avalanche lately.

Rumors

It's pretty clear that players such as Gabriel Landeskog and Matt Duchene are available on the trade market, and McKenzie revealed earlier this morning that the Bruins have had several discussions regarding the asking price for those players. Reportedly, Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic has enquired about the availability of promising defensemen Brandon Carlo and Charlie McAvoy, and Sweeney has made it clear that these players are not going anywhere.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman echoed McKenzie's sentiments last Saturday evening, and admitted that the Bruins and the Avalanche have had a second wave of discussions regarding Landeskog but that there are no deals in sight.

The Avalanche are believed to be sellers at the upcoming Trade Deadline, given their 13-25-1 record and 30th overall position in the NHL.
