NHL Insider hints at potential retirement for star player and captain

Mike Fisher has come alive in the Stanley Cup Final. After going pointless through the playoffs’ first three rounds, Fisher has exploded for four assists in the four Cup Final games and has lead his team back from down 2-0 to tie up the series 2-2. So, what happens if Fisher and the Preds accomplish the impossible and raise the Stanley Cup? Will he back for 2017-18? One NHL insider, TSN’s Darren Dreger, thinks the 37 year-old would call it a career. From Dreger:

"He's got a contract that expires at the end of this year and I know that there's been no decision yet, but I'd be really surprised if Mike Fisher plays beyond this season. He's invested in Nashville, obviously with his wife Carrie Underwood, they want to raise their family here in Nashville so I don't see him going anywhere else."

And what a career it would be. While the Preds still have two more wins until the achieve the ultimate prize, there’s no doubt that walking away from the sport in good health and with a Stanley Cup championship as the final accomplishment on your list is a pretty rare and special feat.

Fisher is an 18 year NHL veteran and has been with the Predators for the past seven seasons after being acquired in a trade from the Ottawa Senators. He’s played over 1000 career NHL games and has produced 276 goals and 585 throughout his career. He’s a born leader and a perfect captain for the city of Nashville. He and his wife, country superstar Carrie Underwood, are a power couple in the city whose power and influence can be seen throughout the region as a result of their charity work and volunteer efforts. If Fisher were to finally call it a career, he’d go down in history as one of the team’s all-time greatest Predators.
