NHL insider makes a huge prediction about Kyle Turris

Looks like he's definitely going to get traded.

We reported a couple of times about the blockbuster deal between the Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators that would've sent Matt Duchene in Ottawa and Kyle Turris in Nashville. It is fair to believe there is a certain interest from the Sens to trade Turris away, who is in the last season of his five-year, $17,5 million contract.

Now it is clear that the 28-year-old forward wants a new, much more lucrative deal, but according to Sportsnet'Nick Kypreos, it looks like he might have to sign it elsewhere. Here's what he said, during the Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada:

"Everybody, for the most part, agrees that the marketplace for Kyle Turris is in the vicinity of $6.5 million [per season], ballpark, and he wants a minimum of seven or eight years. Even if [Ottawa general manager Pierre] Dorion liked those numbers it appears that he does not have the support of his ownership. Eugene Melnyk doesn’t appear in any hurry to sign him to this type of contract."

As we can read on Sportsnet.ca, "the Senators currently have approximately $3.7 million in salary cap space with Mark Stone and Cody Ceci among the pending restricted free agents they’ll have to ink to new deals." It is fair to say GM Pierre Dorion will have to use this money carefully.

Kypreos added that "“I’m told those type of numbers (a seven- or eight-year deal at approximately $6.5 million per season) wouldn’t scare off many other teams but it scares off Ottawa."

Is letting Turris go the right call from the Sens?
