NHL insider makes bold prediction for Rangers in 2017-18

In his latest article for TSN, NHL insider Frank Seravalli makes 31 bold predictions, one for each of the NHL’s franchises. While he makes some wild claims that may anger some fanbases, none may be more head scratching than his prediction for the New York Rangers.

The Rangers’ window is closing as they miss the playoffs for just the second time during Henrik Lundqvist’s reign. Lundqvist, who turns 36 this season, is coming off a career-worst season with a .910 save percentage. It will be hard to hold ground in the Metro with those numbers again.

So the Rangers are going to go from a 102 point team to out of the playoffs entirely? That… seems like a bit of a stretch. Sure, Henrik Lundqvist may not be the goaltender he used to be, but he’s still a top 10 goalie in the NHL and didn’t forget how to stop the puck over the summer.
